Performing one’s Salah in the first Saff

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. 

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

There are numerous virtues of performing Salah in the first Saff (row).

Rasullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is reported to have said:

إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلاَئِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى الصَّفِّ الأَوَّلِ ‏ ‏

Translation:  Abdur-Rahmān bin ‘Awf (Radhiyallahu Anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: ‘Allah and the angels send blessings upon the first row.’” (Sunan Ibn Mājah 999)

عَنِ الْعِرْبَاضِ بْنِ سَارِيَةَ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَ يُصَلِّي عَلَى الصَّفِّ الأَوَّلِ ثَلاَثًا وَعَلَى الثَّانِي وَاحِدَةً ‏.

Translation: It was narrated from Al ‘irbāḍ bin Sāriyah narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) would send blessings on the first row three times and on the second row once.‏

(Sunan Al Nasā’ī 817)

It is understood from the above-mentioned narrations that there are great virtues and rewards of performing Salah in the first Saff.

We advise that one makes all efforts to ensure that all his Salah is performed in the first Saff.
