Every ruling in this archive was an answer to one person's question, in their circumstances, at the time it was asked. A fatwa is a considered response to a specific situation — not a general rule that transfers unchanged to a situation that merely looks similar. Two questions that read alike can have different answers because of a detail the questioner mentioned and you did not.

So please treat what you find here as a record of what was asked and answered, and not as a ruling addressed to you. If your situation matters, ask a qualified scholar about your situation. Askimam.org still answers questions; this site does not.

Rulings may also have been overtaken by circumstances. Some are more than twenty years old and refer to institutions, technologies, products or laws that have changed since. Each ruling shows the date it was published, and that date is part of reading it.

Fatwa Explorer republishes these answers and does not issue them, endorse them, or take any position on them. Responsibility for the content of a ruling rests with the scholars who issued it. Where an answer here differs from what appears on Askimam.org, the source is authoritative, and we would be glad to be told.
