As an Imam, is it permissible to recite the Masnoon Dua between Sajdah in Salaah?

Question

As an Imam, is it permissible to recite the Masnoon Dua between Sajdah in Salah?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The Imam should consider the people performing Salah behind him. Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:

Translation: Abu Huraira (Radiyallahu Anhu) narrated: the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, "If anyone of you leads the people in the prayer, he should shorten it for amongst them are the weak, the sick and the old; and if anyone among your prays alone then he may prolong (the prayer) as much as he wishes. " (Sahih Al-Bukhari-703)[1]

If the Imam is certain that by reading the Masnoon Duas between the Sajdahs, that will not be difficult upon the Musalis, then he may read the Duas.[2]

However, if the Imam reads the Duas and that is difficult upon the followers, then he should refrain from reciting the Duas.

The Dua to recite between the two Sajdahs is the following:

Translation: O Allah! Forgive me! Have mercy on me, grant me wellbeing, guide me, grant me subsistence, repair my losses, and grant me a high position. (Hisnul Hasin p. 107)
