Relation of adopted child to adoptive mother.

Question

If a child is adopted by the laws of the ones country, at one month.And then the child stays with the adoptive parents for the child's life; ifthe adoptive mother produced no milk, what would be the relation between herand the adoptive boy according to the shariah? -mahram or non-mahram to each other?

Answer

According to Shari'ah, an adoptive mother will be a foster mother if she
suckled the child within two years of childhood. If she did not suckle the
child within that period, in principle, they will be Ghayr Mahaarim to one
another.
