If a daughter is adopted by a couple as a baby and the child is breast fead by her adopted mother, when the girl matures - does she have to wear Hijab infront of her adopted father or not?

Question

If a daughter is adopted by a couple as a baby and the child is breast fead by her adopted mother, when the girl matures - does she have to wear Hijab infront of her adopted father or not?  Please answer according to Hanafi fiqh.

Answer

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatoh

The husband of the woman who breastfed the adopted child will become that child’s foster father. It will never become permissible for that child to marry him and he will become her Mahram. Thus, she will not have to adopt hijāb in front of him. If there is a fear of fitnah, then it would be preferable for her to don the Hijāb in front of him as well.
