How will washing impure clothing in the laundry become pure?
Question
Will washing impure clothing due to mani in the laundrey, a full cycle in the washing machine, be enough to consider it pure? Or will the clthing have to be washed rinsed three times even in the washing machine?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
A typical domestic washing machine as generally used in homes washes, spins and rinses the clothes multiple times during the process of washing. As such, one’s clothes is purified through the various cycles a washing machine operates as the essential factor in purifying one’s clothes is to wash off the impurity.[1]
The ruling of a commercial washing machine will differ according to its procedure. In some instances, the liquid chemical is used many times before changing the chemical. As such, one should wash off any type of impurity from the clothes before using such washing machines.

[1] و اما النجاسة الحقيقية: فان كانت غير مرئية ، كالبول و نحوه. ذكر في (ظاهر الرواية): انه لا تطهر الا بالغسل ثلاثا...
و ان كانت النجاسة مرئية ، كالدم و نحوه : فطهارتها زوالها عينها ، و لا عبرة فيه بالعدد ، لان النجاسة في العين، فان زالت العين زالت النجاسة، وإن بقيت بقيت. ولو زالت العين وبقي الأثر، فإن كان مما يزول أثره لا يحكم بطهارته، ما لم يزل الأثر؛ لأن الأثر لون عينه، لا لون الثوب، فبقاؤه يدل على بقاء عينه وإن كانت النجاسة مما لا يزول أثره، لا يضر بقاء أثره عندنا

قال رحمه الله: (والنجس المرئي يطهر بزوال عينه)؛ لأن تنجس المحل باعتبار العين فيزول بزوالها ولو بمرة..
قال رحمه الله: (وغيره بالغسل ثلاثا والعصر كل مرة) أي غير المرئي من النجاسة يطهر بثلاث غسلات وبالعصر في كل مرة والمعتبر فيه غلبة الظن وإنما قدره بالثلاث؛ لأن غلبة الظن تحصل عنده غالبا.
