Safar without mahram

Question

One of my female cousins  works with airlines, recently visited Jedaah and made umrah with her colleague. She was not accompnyed with a mehram. Is it allowed? if not what is the kaffara?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is not permissible for a female to travel for 48  miles or more without mahram.

Rasulullah (Sallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) stated:

ولا تسافرن امرأة إلا ومعها محرم

A woman is not permitted to travel unless a mahram is with her[1].

If a women travelled 48 miles or more without a mahram, she committed a sin. For which she should made sincere tawba and resolve never to repeat that in future. The sincere tawba is the kaffara for her sin.
