On the day of eid, did the Prophet Salalahu Alayhi Wasalam wear new clothes, or the best of his old clothes?

Question

Is it essential to buy new clothes if one CAN afford it? Why do people make it a fashion to buy new clothes on eid?

Answer

It is not essential to buy new clothes.

It is Sunnah to wear one?s best clothes, provided they conform to the Shari?ah.
