What is the Sunnah of wearing new dresses/clothes on Eid day?

In the name of Allāh, Most Gracious, Most Merciful  

Assalāmu ῾alaykum wa Rahmatullāhi Wabarakātuh

Amongst the thirteen sunnahs of Eid-ul-fitr, one is to wear the best of clothing which one possesses, or can afford.

As for thinking it to be compulsory to buy new garments, shoes and other wasteful expenditure incurred on Eid day has no basis in shariah.
