I have often heard in Bayaans that there are 5 Sunnahs in drinking water. Please identify the Hadiths that point to these.
Answer
The following are some of the Sunnats of drinking:
1. To sit and drink. (Sahih Bukhari Hadith6452 and Sahih Muslim)
2. To drink with the right. (Sahih Bukhari)
3. To take 3 sips (Sahih Muslim)
4. Not to breath into the utensil (Mustadrak al-Haakim)
5. To say Bismillah before drinking. (Sahih Bukhari and al-Azkaar)
6. To recite the following Du'aa after drinking, 'Alhamdulillaahi llaadhiy
at'ama wa saqaa, wa sawwaqahu wa ja'ala lahu makhraja.' (Abu Dawud). This Du
'aa could also be recited after eating. (Ibid)
and Allah Ta'ala Knows Best
