Putting a headstone on a grave

Question

Is it ok to put a gravestone on the grave with the name of the person and date of demise?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykumwa-rahmatullāhiwa-barakātuh.

A grave should be simple without any sort of decorations. However, it is permissible to erect a gravestone for identification purposes only.[1]
