Can I perform Qadha Salah in place of Tahajjud Salah?
Question
Salam,
I hope you are well Moulana. I started performing my qaza of the salah that I missed through-out my life. I wanted to know if I can perform my qadha salah in place of tahajjud salah. Would it count as Tahajjud, or should I pray nafl separately for tahajjud?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Brother in Islam,
We commend you for making an effort to perform Qadha of the Salah that you missed throughout your life. May Allah Ta’ala keep you steadfast and accept your Ibaadah. Ameen.
If you perform Qadha at the time of Tahajjaud Salah, you will receive the reward of performing Tahajjud Salah.[1]
We advise you to continue performing Qadha Salah of until all the Salah that you have missed are made up.

ظَاهِرُ مَا مَرَّ أَنَّ التَّهَجُّدَ لَا يَحْصُلُ إلَّا بِالتَّطَوُّعِ؛ فَلَوْ نَامَ بَعْدَ صَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ ثُمَّ قَامَ فَصَلَّى فَوَائِتَ لَا يُسَمَّى تَهَجُّدًا وَتَرَدَّدَ فِيهِ بَعْضُ الشَّافِعِيَّةِ
قُلْت: وَالظَّاهِرُ أَنَّ تَقْيِيدَهُ بِالتَّطَوُّعِ بِنَاءً عَلَى الْغَالِبِ وَأَنَّهُ يَحْصُلُ بِأَيِّ صَلَاةٍ كَانَتْ لِقَوْلِهِ فِي الْحَدِيثِ الْمَارِّ «وَمَا كَانَ بَعْدَ صَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ فَهُوَ مِنْ اللَّيْلِ»

اگر کوئی نیند سے اٹھ کر فوت شدہ نماز کی قضاء کرے تو بعض فقہاء کے نزدیک یہ بھی تہجد میں سے شمار ہوتی ہے،
