Picking up a Qur’ān left in the Train
Question
Salam. I was travelling by train and came across a quraan that was left. I wasn’t sure what to do. I picked it up and took it home. If I left it, people would disrespect it. What should I do with the Qur’ān?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykumwa-rahmatullāhiwa-barakātuh.
If one comes across a Qur’ān left in a in such a place that there is a likelihood that people will disrespect it, one ought to pick it up and give it to a poor person.[i]
And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best

(عند خوف ضياعها) كما مر، لان المال المسلم حرمة كما لنفسه، فلو تركها حتى ضاعت أثم، وهل يضمن؟ ظاهر كلام النهر لا، وظاهر كلام المصنف نعم

(قوله: عند خوف ضياعها) المراد بالخوف غلبة الظن كما نقلناه
عمدة الرعاية بتحشية شرح الوقاية (6/ 237 الشاملة الذهبية)
أي إن رفع اللقطة وهي مال الغير الذي وجد ضائعا مندوب، وفرض عند خوف ضياعها، وهذا إذا أمن على نفسه، وإلا فالترك أولى
