Listening to the Sajdah Tilawah of Non-Baligh children

Question

Asalamulaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarkatuhu Mufti Saab,

I teach kids kids in Maktab. Many of the kids are in ‘amma para. A few kids who are not baligh give the same amount of sabak everyday. A few days ago they read surah inshiqaq to me. I lost track of how many Sajdahs I was supposed to give. What should I do?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

At the outset, you should note if your students are not Baligh (mature) but have reached an age of understanding, then Sajdah Tilawah will be Wajib upon you. If they have not reached an age of understanding, Sajdah Tilawah will not be Wajib upon you.[1]

You state you have lost track of the Sajdahs you are to perform. You should make an overestimate of the Sajdah Tilawah you have heard and perform them accordingly.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
