Where do my kids stand in Salaah?
Question
I have two kids (eight and sixteen) alhamdulillah. Due to covid I have been leading my kids in prayer at home. Where should they stand when I lead them? Does my eight year old stand behind my sixteen yr old? Jazakallah
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Your kids will pray behind you while standing next to each other. Your eight-year-old will not stand behind your sixteen-year-old.[1]

"ثم" يصف "الصبيان" لقول أبي مالك الأشعري أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم صلى وأقام الرجال يلونه وأقام الصبيان خلف ذلك وأقام النساء خلف ذلك وإن لم يكن جمع من الصبيان يقوم الصبي بين الرجال

(قَوْلُهُ فَلَوْ وَاحِدًا دَخَلَ الصَّفَّ) ذَكَرَهُ فِي الْبَحْرِ بَحْثًا، قَالَ: وَكَذَا لَوْ كَانَ الْمُقْتَدِي رَجُلًا وَصَبِيًّا يَصُفُّهُمَا خَلْفَهُ لِحَدِيثِ أَنَسٍ «فَصَفَفْت أَنَا وَالْيَتِيمُ وَرَاءَهُ وَالْعَجُوزُ مِنْ وَرَائِنَا
