Can Janazah Salah be done for someone who was cremated?

Question

Is cremation allowed and if someons cremation has alredy been done do we pray janaazah on him?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Allah Ta’ala has made the human being the best of the creations and has granted him a lofty status.

Allah Ta’ala says:

“And We have certainly honored the children of Adam and carried them on the land and sea and provided for them of the good things and preferred them over much of what We have created, with [definite] preference.” (17:70)

In relation to this honour, Shariah has emphasised that the human body be treated with utmost respect and care.

Even in the burial procedure, the body of the deceased must be handled with utmost care.

Cremating the body of the deceased person is against the respect and honour which is due to it.

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said:

Ummul Mu'minin Aisha (Radhiyallahu Anha) narrates:

The Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: Breaking a dead man's bone is like breaking it when he is alive. (Abu Dawud-3207)

In the cremating procedure, the entire body is damaged. Therefore, it will not be permissible to cremate the body of the deceased.

If the body of the deceased was cremated, the Janazah Salah will not be performed.[1]
