Learning Tafseer from the Islam 360 App
Question
As you may know, there are many free apps for reading Quran. One such app called Quran 360 is a tremendous way of getting the translation of the questions. My question is about the fahm-ul-quran feature in Quran 360 app. The tutorial shares with us that the translation is by Qari Mohammad Rafiq Salim's book Fahmul Quran. I'm not aware of the name of author. Can you verify that this person is a reliable person to learn the meaning of Quran from?

Answer
Wa Alaykumus Salaam Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakaatuh
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Respected brother in Islam,
Muhammed Bin Sireen (رحمه الله) advises:
إن هذا العلم دين، فانظروا عمن تأخذون دينكم
Translation: Verily knowledge is (in reality a person’s) Deen. So be very cautious regarding who you take your Deen from. [1]
We do not know Qari Mohammad Rafiq Salim. In view of the above advice of Muhammed Bin Sireen (رحمه الله), we advise you to exercise precaution and do not read the Fahmul Quraan of Qari Mohammad Rafiq Salim.
The translation of the Quraan in English by Mufti Muhammed Taqi Uthmani Saab (مد ظله) is beneficial. You may also refer to the translations of Mufti A.H Elias (رحمة الله عليه) available here and here.
