Im a diabetic, can i read Salaah at home due to COVID-19?

Question

As salaamu alaikum Respected Mufti Saheb.. making dua you are well ...

In these days of Covid ; being a diabetic and the increase in infections, is my Salaah read at home with my family in Jamaat less reward than done so in Musjid ?

JazakAllah Khair

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Brother in Islam,

There are great rewards mentioned in Ahadith for Salah with Jama’ah in the Masjid. Whilst these rewards are specifically for those performing Salah with Jama’ah in the masjid, we understand that we are in the midst of the ongoing covid-19 pandemic. Furthermore, we acknowledge that you are a diabetic patient who may be prone to catching contagious diseases and infections. Thus, we are hopeful that you will not be deprived of these rewards.

However, many Masajid have begun to re-open with strict guidelines and procedures in place in order to avoid passing on the virus. We would advise that you inquire regarding the systems in place in your local Masajid to see if it is suitable for you perform Salah in the Masjid.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
