What are the laws for women in the congregational prayer?
Question
As salaam alaykum
What are the law's for a lady to b aware of when following an imam in congregation prayers?
What are the laws of the imam to take cognizance of when he knows he has female congregants following him?
What is the allowed distance between the male and female congregants of one Imam?
Will the prayer of a lady b valid if imam not aware she is following?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
If a woman performs Salah behind an Imam, then the Imam should make intention of leading her in Salah. If the Imam does not make intention of leading the woman in Salah, her Salah behind him will be invalid.[1]
If you are referring to women performing Salah behind men at home as in the lockdown situation, then it is advisable for the Imam to be a Mahram, for example, father, son etc.
If she joins the congregation, there should be a barrier, for example a screen, curtain etc. separating the males and females in the same room. If the females are in another room of the house which is less than two Sufoof (rows) behind the men folk, then it is permissible for them to follow the Imam in Salah.[2]

وفي «الفتاوى» : إمام صلى بقوم على الطريق فاصطف الناس في الطريق على طول قال: إذا لم يكن بين الإمام وبين القوم مقدار ما يمر منه الجمل جازت صلاتهم وإلا فلا

سوال: اگر امام ایک کمرہ میں ہو اور اس کے ساتھ چند مقتدی ہیں اور جگہ کی تنگی کی وجہ سے بعض مقتدی دوسرے الگ کمرے میں اقتداء کرتے ہیں تو ان کی اقتداء درست ہے یا نہیں؟
جواب: صورت مسئولہ میں اگر دونوں کمرے ساتھ ہیں اور درمیان میں بڑا راستہ یا دو صف کے بقدر خالی جگہ نہیں ہے تو دوسرے کمرے والوں کی اقتداء صحیح ہے ورنہ نہیں-
