Maaiz or Maaez (ماعز) - a Sahabi’s name
Question
Salam. Hope you’re well. I’ve been trying to find authentic meanings of the names ‘Maez/Maiz’ and Emaneh. Are these good names to keep. I’d be grateful if you could help me.
JazakAllah.
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
In Islam we are encouraged to give meaningful names to our children. Shariah placed a great importance in choosing names.
Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) has mentioned:
عَنْ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " إِنَّكُمْ تُدْعَوْنَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بِأَسْمَائِكُمْ وَأَسْمَاءِ آبَائِكُمْ فَأَحْسِنُوا أَسْمَاءَكُمْ "
(ابو داود-٤۹٤٨)
Abu Darda (Radhiyallahu Anhu) narrates: The Prophet (Sallallahu Alyahi Wasallam) said: On the Day of Resurrection you will be called by your names and by your father's names, so give yourselves good names. (Abu Dawud-4948)
Maaiz or Maaez (ماعز) was a Sahabi’s name. It is a suitable name to keep.
Emaanah or Amaanah (امانة) means trust. It is also a suitable name to keep.
And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
