Can i marry someone who is not legally in the country?

Question

I want to know whether it is correct according to sharia to marry someone who is illegal in the UK. Although they entered the country legally they are now illegal.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Respected Sister,

The legal status of a Muslim person does not affect the validity of the Nikah. Hence, marrying such a person will be permissible.

However, it is advisable to make Istikhara and consult elders of the family and an immigration lawyer before proceeding.
