Is it permissible for one to go in a honeymoon before rukhsati and the walīmah?

Question

Assalamualykum,

Is it haram for someone to stop me from going on a honeymoon with my wife after nikah but before the Rukhsati and Valima?

Jazak Allah Khair,

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In principle, it is permissible to go out and spend time with one’s wife after nikāḥ takes place. A honeymoon is a vacation spent together by a newly married couple. Accordingly, it is permissible to go on a honeymoon after one’s nikāḥ, even if the rukhsati (the day a wife goes to live with her husband) and walīmah did not take place as of yet. However, one must ensure that he avoids areas of fitnah and impermissible acts when going on a honeymoon.
