Fatwa #396915 October 2001South Africa

How much percentage must each child get from his father's wealth?

Question

We are 5 sons and 3 daughters. What percentage of the estate does each child get? Shukran

Answer

In principle, the heirs and shares of an estate can be determined only upon
death. However, if a person passes away and leaves behind only 5 (five) sons
and 3 (three) daughters, no wife and no parents, then his estate will be
divided into 13 (thirteen) equal shares and distributed as follows: Each son
receives two (2) shares, each daughter receives one (1) share.
