Who is my Mahram?
Question
Assalam alaikum,
I am a Muslim Brother.
Am I mahram or non mahram to my uncle’s wife e.g. chacha and mama’s wife?
Is my wife mahram to her auntie’s husband e.g. chachi and khala’s husband?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Muhtaram Brother,
(1) Your uncle’s wife, ie your chachi and your mami are not your Mahrams. You will have to observe hijab from them.
(2) Your wife is a Mahram to her Chacha, i.e. her father’s brother. [1]
(3) Your wife is not a Mahram to her mother’s sister’s husband, ie her khalas husband. She will have to observe hijab from him.

فَأَما النّسَب فَهُوَ الرَّحِم الْمحرم وهم أَرْبَعَة اصناف
فالصنف الاول الْآبَاء والامهات والاجداد والجدات وان علوا
والصنف الثَّانِي الاولاد واولاد الاولاد من الذُّكُور الاناث وَإِن سفلوا
والصنف الثَّالِث الاخوة والاخوات من اي وَجه كَانُوا لاب وام أَو لاب أَو لَام وَأَوْلَاد جَمِيعهم وان بعدوا
والصنف الرَّابِع الاعمام والعمات والاخوال والخالات واعمام وعمات واخوال وخالات الْآبَاء والامهات والاجداد والجدات وان علوا من اية جِهَة كَانُوا لاب وام أَو لاب اَوْ لَام يحرمُونَ بِأَنْفسِهِم
