Are Wazaaif Ruqyas

Question

There are many wazaifs for doing many things like for job some say read surah quraish 11 times.
Some say read Surah Yaseen 41 times.

So whether these types of wazaifs are ruqayyas ?
As in this case, one recites these surahs for worldly benefit and not for ibadat.
And they are like saying Surah Fatiha on snake-bitten person.

And whether one can take money if one recites it for other person if he says to do it.

And whether one will get sawab if he performs these wazaifs ?
I have read somewhere ( i think in Maulana Thanvi's malfoozaat ) that thinking that one will get sawab on Ruqayyas
is Bidat ? as it is MUBAH amal originally.
So is it bidat to assume that one will get swab just by reciting these surahs (as wazifa) .

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

There is a difference between ruqya and wazaaif. Ruqya refers to reading and blowing  to cure oneself from sickness, black magic etc. In wazaaif there is no blowing.

The various wazaaif you refer to are tried and tested. It is permissible (mubah) to practice what is tried and tested. Reading such wazaaif is an expression of a person’s confidence in the surahs of the Quran. However, duas from the Quran and Ahadith are most effective.
