How to address ones parents

Question

Please tell whats the best way for a child to call his father and mother? Whats the sunnah way or sahaba way for this?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is an obviously well known fact that children should display love and respect to their parents in each and every way, including while addressing them.

In principal, the issue of respect is subordinate to the general environment and norm of the place and time. Actually, it is not only the term used to call ones parents, but it is also the attitude and conduct of doing so which should reflect love and respect. If it is a norm to call ones father as Father, Daddy, or Aboo and in the case of one's mother as Mother, Mommy, Ami etc. then this is not regarded to be disrespectful.
