Can we perform Istikhara for performing Hajj and Umrah?

Question

My question is that can we perform istekhara for Hajj or Umrah ?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The essence of istikhara is to turn to Allah Ta’ala and ask Allah Ta’ala to show one a favourable decision and to be protected from harm when one is faced with a difficulty, or confused in making a decision in a certain matter. If hajj is fardh upon one, that has to be fulfilled. One may make istikhara on various preparatory steps for fulfilling hajj. Nafl hajj and ‘umrah are optional. One may make istikhara for that.
