Where should we wear ihram in a direct flight from Johannesburg to Jeddah?

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullāhi wa barakātuh.

Jeddah falls within the mīqāt boundary.[1] Thus, it is necessary to enter into the state of ihrām before reaching Jeddah. Hence, you should wear the ihrām clothing before boarding the plane in Johannesburg. However, as there is always a chance of delay, it is better to enter into the state of ihrām (i.e. make niyyah for ‘umrah and recite talbiyah) only once you have boarded the plane.
