Intercourse during Istihaadha
Question
I am on the 12th day of my period today. Is it permissible for me to engage in sexual intercourse with my husband? And when should I start praying?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salamu’alaykum wa-rahmatullahi wa –barakatuh.
According to the Hanafi Mazhab (School of thought), the maximum period of Hayd (menstrual period) is 10 days.[1]
The discharge after ten days is Istihaadha (chronic discharge). After the ten days bleeding, you should take a compulsory bath and resume your obligations of Salaah.
It is also permissible to engage in conjugal relationship during Istihaadha.[2]
A woman in Istihaadha will have to renew her Wudhu for each Fardh Salaah time.[3]
