How long is time of zawaal? Our mosque in US has Zuhur time as 12:40pm. For how long appoximately should you not pray before Zuhur?

Question

Is this rule different for other Madhabs such as Shafi Some brothers in our masjid start praying nafil before the Zuhur Adhan and some pray more that two rakat. How long after Zawaal does time of Zuhir start?

Answer

Zawal (the prohibition time for Salaat) actually refers to midday when the movement of the sun stops. Dhuhr time commences immediately after the sun resumes its movement.
