Fatwa #1940512 August 2011Saudi Arabia

If one sleeps on a napaak bed which has dry semen or urine and he is paak ,would he have to make ghusul or taking a normal shower would be sufficient? When does one make ghusul?

Answer

Assalāmu `alaikum Warahmatullāhi Wabrakatuh,

1) If the bed is dry and there is no sweat on the body of the person, neither the clothes or the body will become impure (na-paak).
If the bed is dry but the person sweats and the effect of the urine or semen (colour or smell) becomes apparent on the clothes they will become na-paak (impure).

One will not have to perform ghusl or have a shower in any of the scenarios. Merely cleaning the soiled clothing or soiled part of the body will suffice.

2)

•when one has sexual relations with ones spouse
• when one has a wet dream and ejaculates
• after menstruation
• after post natal bleeding (nifaas).
