Position of feet in Salaah

In the Name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In the qiyām (standing) position a distance of four finger-lengths between one's feet is mustahab (desirable).[i]

In the rukū (bowing) and sujūd (prostration) positions, the books of fiqh mention ilsāq al-ka'bayn (joining the ankles) as Sunnah. This has been interpreted by some fuqahā (jurists) as keeping the ankles aligned and not physically joining them, while others have taken the literal meaning.

As a result of this valid difference of opinion you may continue to keep your feet separate but do not criticize those who join their ankles in rukū or sujūd.[ii] [iii] [iv]

   قوله ويسن أن يلصق كعبيه ) قال السيد أبو السعود وكذا في السجود أيضا) [iv]

 وسبق في السنن أيضا ا هـ .والذي سبق هو قوله وإلصاق كعبيه في السجود سنة در ا هـ ولا يخفى أن هذا سبق نظر ، فإن شارحنا لم يذكر ذلك لا في الدر المختار ولا في الدرر المنتقى ولم أره لغيره أيضا فافهم ، نعم ربما يفهم ذلك من أنه إذا كان السنة في الركوع إلصاق الكعبين ولم يذكروا تفريجهما بعده فالأصل بقاؤهما ملصقين في حالة السجود أيضا تأمل
