Is it a sin to chat in chat rooms?

Answer

To communicate through the chat room is similar to communicating by the
telephone. If there is nothing unislamic in the communication, it is
permissible. If there is anuthing unislamic in it, for example chatting
illicitly with the opposite sex, then it is prohibited.
