Fatwa #158723 November 2000Pakistan

Will a gynecology exam involving a vaginal ultrasound break my fast during Ramadan? It is for medical purposes.

Question

I have been trying to get pregnant for over one year now and am undergoing infertility testing. The vaginal ultrasound tracks my ovulation cycle, but it involves inserting a long wand into my vagina. The testing will run into Ramadan this cycle. Should I wait until after Ramadan to resume testing?

Answer

The infertility testing through vaginal ultra sound does not invalidate the fast.
