Could you please explain why it is haraam to watch news?

Assalaamu Alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu. I understand why it is haraam to watch certain programs such as dramas, etc., but I do not understand why watching the news is haraam. Jazakallah khayrun

Answer

Television is prohibited not only for its content but for various other reasons as well.
