I am a 27 yr old female.I have committed adultery which i am deeply sorry about and repent for it. My husband found out about it and has given me my 1st talaaq

Question

My husband found out about it and has given me my 1st talaaq. He loves me alot and is very hurt , so he refuses to forgive me and take me back. The ounishment according to shariah is that I be stoned to death. He says that according to islam he should never take me back and try to work out our problems and save our marriage. Is this true?He also says that he has been searching for some hadith or ruling that says that even though i've commited adultery , he should try and save our marriage. Is ther any haddith that i can quote to him, that says he should take me back because i've changed and am deeply sorry and repent for it?Or does Islam say that either way my marriage is over, we should never be together again?

Answer

Allah is Most Gracious and Most Merciful. He says in the Noble Qur'aan, 'Oh My Slaves! Do not despair. Verily Allah will forgive all sins.' %0D%0A%0D%0AIn one Hadith, Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) is reported to have said, 'If a person has sins equivalent to the foams of the sea and pebbles on a desert, Allah's mercy is so encompassing that He will forgive every sin.' In another narration, it is mentioned that Allah will speak secretly to one of His slaves on the day of Qiyaamat and remind him of all his sins. After the person will confess his sins, Allah will say to him, 'I concealed your faults in the world, today too, I will conceal your faults. Go in Jannah, I have forgiven you.' %0D%0A%0D%0AThe above mentioned are few of many Ahaadith explaining the extent of Allah's Mercy. However, Allah says, 'Verily Allah will not forgive a person who ascribe partners (commit Shirk) with Him.' The only sin that is unforgivable is Kufr (disbelief) and Shirk (ascribing partners). Accepting Islam is the only atonement for the sin of Kufr and Shirk. %0D%0A%0D%0AIf one fulfils the conditions of repentance, i.e. regret and make firm intention to reform, then surely Allah Ta'ala is Tawwaab (Most Forgiving)%0D%0A%0D%0ACommitting adultery is a very great sin. However, it does not break the Nikah. Islam does not forbid the couple remaining together. In fact, if she is remorseful over her action and repents sincerely, it would be better to save the marriage. Divorce is greatly detested in Islam. Since your husband has issued you one Talaaq, he could take you back during your Iddat (waiting period) without renewing the marriage or after the Iddah by renewing the marriage.%0D%0A%0D%0Aand Allah Ta'ala Knows Best%0D%0A%0D%0AMufti Ebrahim Desai
