Fatwa #79337 February 2003United States of America

What if two Mufti's disagree? Sometimes two Mufti's give two different farwaas what shall we do in that case.

Question

Sometimes two Mufti's give two different farwaas what shall we do in that case.

Answer

It is natural for intellectuals to have a difference in opinion. Differences of scholars is a types of mercy from Allah.

Nevertheless, a person should choose a certain Mufti whose verdicts he shall follow at all times, immaterial of whatever he says may be against him. Once he has done that, when there are conflicting views, he chooses the view of that Mufti whom he had confidence in and chosen.
