Fatwa #7464 September 2000Pakistan

I understand that you must pray the 2 'travel rakats' while on a journey of more than 48 miles.Under what circumstances must you pray the'assigned rakats'?

Question

I generally travel 80 miles (one way) to eat halal food. I then return within a couple of hours. At the time of salah, I make intention for the 'assigned rakats'instead of the 2 'travel rakats' because I don't feel I'm on a journey. Please help me on this issue. Jazakallah Khair

Answer

According to the Hanafi Madhab, if you undertake a journey of 88 km or more, you will be a Musaafir and is obliged to perform two Rakaats in Dhuhr, Asr
and Esha Salaats.
