Can men wear a cloth which has some proportion of silk in it? Or is it completely forbidden?
Answer
Huzaifah (Radhiallaahu Anhu) narrates that nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) prohibited us from eating and drinking in utensils of pure gold and silver and wearing garments of silk.(Sahih Bukhari; Fathul Bari pg.291vol 10)
There are some narrations of Umar (Radhiallaahu Anhu) that Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) allowed wearing silk to the amount of the index and middle finger. (Bukhari pg.284 vol.10)
The Jurists have ruled that is the limit for the breadth of the silk cloth.
However it is best for men to abstain from wearing silk. Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said in one hadith whoever adorns himself with silk in this world, he shall be deprived of silken garments in the hereafter. (Mishkaat pg 174 Darul Arqam)
