I noticed that many people seek a short cut these days. When greeting, instead of saying "Assalamualaikum" they just say "Salam" ...is this permissible?

When greeting , instead of saying "Assalamualaikum" they just say "Salam" ... is this permissible? Also in sms's and when chatting on the net, many people dont say "Assalamualaikum" but just say "salamz" adding a "z" at the end of "salam"... is this permissible?

Answer

To say Salam in place of the full Salaam is contrary to the Sunnah.
