I hav been involved with a divorcee,who has told me about his past, we want to get married .by making istekhara is that sufficient in accepting the proposal,despite everyone speaking bad about him.

Answer

Together with making Istikhaarah, you should investigate thoroughly in regards to him and then decide, using your discretion. You should not be hasty due to nikah being an intrinsic, essential matter of your life.
