Shari'ah permits males to have a maximum of four wives simultaneously on
condition that he maintains equality and justice among all his wives.
Therefore, a female can be the second wife.

However, due to the sensitive nature of becoming a second wife and the
implications on the subsisting marriage, one should exercise extreme
precaution.
