Fatwa #59921 July 2002United Kingdom

I am a bit confused because the answer you gave to Q.5899 seemingly contradicts with an ayat in Al-Qur'an. (Surah Al-Baqarah, ayat:42)

Question

Honourable brother, I have quoted the above translation from 'The meaning of The Glorious Qur'an-an explanatory translation by Muhammed Marmaduke Pickthall, publeshed in 2000, by Islamic Dawah Centre International, Birmingham, UK. The above ayat needs attention, also in relation to questions 2567 and 3431. In answering these questions, you state that concealing income to evade tax is not a sin. Sir, please accept my apology for giving you a lot of trouble. I am a bit confused and seek your help.

Answer

The 'truth' referred to in the Aaayat refers to the truth of Imaan (belief).
It is not allowed to conceal Imaan.
