There are some people who say that putting on Hijaab is not Islamic, but rather Arabic culture.

Question

They add that even Mariam (Alayhas-Salaam), the mother of Issa (Alayhis-Salaam), used to cover herself even though she was not a Muslim. Can you comment?

Answer

The mother of Hadhrat Eesa (Alayhis salaam) was certainly a devout Muslim. Allah Ta?ala describes her chastity: Kindly refer to Hijaab at www.jamiat.org.za/isinfo/w_veil.html. And Allah Ta'ala Knows Best Mufti Ebrahim Desai
