can a wife undergo permanent sterilization for birth control ?
Question
As-salamualikum Mufti Sahab, can a wife undergo permanent sterilization for birth control if she is suffering from herniated disc and continious low back pain. She already has kids and finding difficulty to look after them. Her husband does not have any objection as he is also consern about her health.
Answer
In principle, it is not permissible for a female to undergo a permanent
sterilization.
She may adopt any temporary birth control method suitable to her. If
adopting a temporary birth control method does not relieve her medical
complications and sterilization is the only solution, then she will be
excused.
