Eating shark. Is it makrooh? (please explain the reasoning, if yes).

Question

As salaamu alaikum. I am aware of the Hanafi rulings on makrooh seafoods such as shrimp and lobster,etc., but I would like to know the views on eating shark. Is it makrooh? (please explain the reasoning, if yes).

Answer

In principle, according to the Hanafi Madhab, only fish from the sea may be
consumed.

Allaamah Damiri (RA) categorized Sharks under the species of fish. (Hayaatul
Hayawaan vol.2 pg.614; Islamiyaat)
