Fatwa #51266 March 2002United States of America

I would like to know the Hadith(s) regarding the reward for praying Isha' and Fajr in the Masjid (and the penalty for not)?

Answer

Hadhrat Uthmaan (Radhiallaahu Anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu
Alayhi Wasallam) said, 'Whosoever reads Esha with Jamaat then it is as
though he has stood up (made Ibaadat) for half the night and whosoever reads
Fajr with Jamaat then it is as though he has read the entire night.'
(Muslim; Mishkaat pg.62)

Hadhrat Abu Hurayra (Radhiallaahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu
Alayhi Wasallam) said, 'There is no Salaat more difficult / burdensome upon
the hypocrites (Munaafiqeen) than Fajr and Esha Salaats, and had they known
what is in store for them, i.e. for those who read Fajr and Esha with
Jamaat, then they would come even though it be crawling. (Ibid)
