Most people in the Indian sub-continent touch the feet of their elders as a mark of respect. Does this practice have any room in Islam?

Question

(normally this involves bowing down, though the intention is only to touch the feet).

Answer

There is no basis for the queried action.

However, it is also not permissible to involve oneself in such actions. (Shaami vol.6 pg.384)
