Celebrating the birthday of deceased pious imams

Question

In our country, women celebrate the birthdays of the deceased pious Imams. They burn incense and seek its blessing by rubbing themselves with its smoke. Is this permissible?

Answer

n the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Celebrating the birthday of a deceased pious imam and burning incense to seek their blessing by rubbing the smoke on the body is not established in Shariah. Therefore, acting upon this is an act of Bidah and incorrect.[1]
