Discharging excess Zakat
Question
As salaam alaykum
If an organisation like jamiat or whoever does a collection drive for a project in which zakaat can b used and thet happen to collect more than target required for the project, can the surplus Zakat be used for other projects in which zakat can be used.

Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
If an Organisation does a collection drive of zakat or lillah for a particular project, it is advisable to state, “If there are surplus funds, the Organisation will use the surplus funds at its discretion.” In that instance the organisation may use the funds for other projects at its discretion.
If the Organisation did not make such a statement and it collected surplus funds for a particular project, the donor should be informed and his consent is necessary to use his contribution in other projects.
